Oyo TESCOM Begins Screening Exercise Distributes Appointment Letters

The Oyo State Post Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), is set for the screening exercise and distribution of appointment letters to newly appointed teachers.

The Permanent Secretary for the Commission, Alhaji Lawal Haroon, made this known to newsmen as contained in a circular dated December 26, 2024.

He said that the new appointees would receive SMS notifications regarding their screening process and appointment letters from Saturday, December 28, 2024, emphasizing that the newly recruited teachers are to report at their respective zones for collection of their appointment letters from Monday, 30th December, 2024.

The Permanent Secretary also clarified that the appointment letters ready for Monday do not include individuals with special needs or non-teaching categories.

He urged the public to disregard any information that does not bear the official TESCOM letterhead, emphasizing that such messages are not authorized by TESCOM.

He further encouraged successful candidates in these groups to remain patient until the Commission provides further information regarding their appointments.

NUT Commends Oyo Govt Over Recruitment of 19,500 Teachers In 5 Years

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State wing, has commended the Oyo State Government for the recruitment of 19,500 teachers within five years of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

The union made the commendation in a statement signed by the Chairman, Com. Oladimeji Raji and the Secretary, Com. Salami Olukayode, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday.

Raji and Salami said that the recruitment of new teachers would address the problems of inadequate manpower in the education sector and promote teaching and learning.

The leadership of the Union expressed appreciation of the entire teachers in Oyo State to Governor Seyi Makinde over the appointment of the 14,500 qualified teachers within One and a half years of his second term, and 5,000 teachers in his first term, into the teaching service of Oyo State through Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB and the Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM.

The statement reads, “Your disposition towards turning the tide of education system of Oyo State remain unprecedented and unmatched not only in the annal of recruitment history of our dear state in recent times but also across the entire thirty six States of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory.”

“Your Excellency Sir, your achievements in the education sector since assumption of office particularly, on the successful recruitment of over fourteen thousand qualified teaching professionals and about three thousand five hundred non- teaching personnels, aside an appreciative number of care givers is a clear cut and perfect reflection of your results oriented style of leadership aimed at providing free, qualitative and quantitative education to the amiable citizens of Oyo State. This gesture shall, without doubt, have a significant touch in our classroom and as well enhance educational service delivery to our school children.”

Describing the Governor as a teachers’ friendly Governor, the union particularly pointed at the merit-based parameters used to recruit those with professional teaching qualifications.

“It is no doubt that this noble achievement of yours, despite the prevailing global challenges of economy meltdown, will forever remain a variable tool and special reference point that may not be easily matched by successive administrations.”

“Indeed, you have successfully redeemed our position of honour in the committee of States, most especially on matters of education as envisioned by our beloved forebears. Hence, NUT appreciations of many folds.”

Speaking on the verification exercise for 5,600 newly recruited primary school teachers, the union appealed to the candidates to comport themselves to ease the process.

TESCOM CBT Exam Begins July 29

The Oyo State Post Primary School Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM has fixed Monday, July 29- August 2, 2024, for computer-based test (CBT) for applicants in the ongoing recruitment exercise for teaching and non-teaching staff of secondary schools.

The Chairman, TESCOM, Pastor Akinade Alamu, stated this in Ibadan today, during a press conference.

He said a total of 62, 000 applicants scaled the application exercise to take part in the computer-based tests for the available positions.

Pastor Alamu said 12,000 applicants put in for non-teaching service, while 50,000 applicants applied for teaching service, under TESCOM.

The Chairman said the Commission is executing the recruitment exercise in conjunction with relevant agencies such as Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Establishment; Office of the Head of Service; and Ministry of Finance.

Pastor Alamu reiterated the Commission’s commitment to a credible exercise, adding that “no applicant should rely on hear-says.”

Pastor Akamu said specific date and time for individual applicants is already can be accessed by applicants through  their portals.

He described Governor Seyi Makinde as a lover of Education, who saw the vacuum in secondary schools as one that must be filled, despite its recruitment exercise about four years ago.

He added that the venue for the exam is University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, Computer Based Testing Centre, Ajibode, Ibadan.

Alamu instructed all applicants to print copies of their CBT examination schedule and their application print-out, bearing their passports, from the job portal.

According to him, “The Commission has approved that the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, Computer Based testing centre, should conduct the computer-based tests for the applicants because of its pedigree in such exercise.”

The Chairmam said the two print-outs will admit applicants into the CBT examination hall.

He maintained that applicants must adhere strictly to the time and date, sent to them, as loitering around the centre will not be condoned.

The Chairman added that successful candidates from the computer-based tests will be required to appear for oral interview.

Meanwhile, Pastor Alamu said the Commission has made arrangements for applicants, by providing necessities such as tents, chairs, ambulance service and security.
